Accidents and Injuries

Every year in the UK almost 4,000 people die in accidents in the home and 2.7 million people turn up at accident and emergency departments seeking treatment.

The most common accident is a fall, which can cause a serious injury or can be fatal and this can happen at any time of life. 55% of accidental injuries in the home involves falls.

Children under the age of 5 and people over the age of 65 are most likely to have an accident at home.

Accidents often occur on the roads, in Wrexham during 2008  2 people were killed as a result of being involved in a road traffic accident, 54 people were seriously injured (fracture, internal injury, burns etc..)  and nearly 300 people were slightly injured as a result of a road traffic accident.

WCBC’S Road Safety section can provide advice and information on various on-going initiatives and will be happy to give talks, demonstrations to community groups. For further information please contact the team on 01978 297138.
